Rotary Club’s Association with the beneficiary

 

  • Rotary Club of Madras Industrial City(RCMIC) has been associated with the Government school of Ayanambakkam since the Club’s inception in 1995.
  • Ayanambakkam was an area known to breed bad elements in the society & RCMIC saw an opportunity to play a role in developing the area through better educational environment.
  • 92% of the students come from families below the Poverty line.
  • RCMIC has an active Interact Club functioning in the school..
  • RCMIC has been doing projects of substantial size every year to upgrade the functioning of the school & improve the quality of education. A few such projects are listed below

      • Lab & library equipments/books
    • Annual projects
      • Career Development counseling
      • Medical Camps
      • Teachers orientation, training & recognitions.
      • Rotary Youth Leadership Awards
  • Many of our Rotarians have their enterprises near the school for continuous monitoring of these projects in addition to their generous monetory contributions for the ongoing projects.


 

Purpose of the Project

 

 

  • Toilet Block
    • There are 740 students(Boys & Girls) studying in the school & 45 teachers.
    • Only 2 toilets cater to this community now resulting in extended interval periods.
    • The sanitation of the surrounding areas are very unhygienic due to shortage of toilets.
    • Lack of privacy for Girls & lady teachers are leading to frequent absenteesm
    • Relucatance of teachers to be appointed to this school due to absence of Basic facilities.
    • Frequent absenteeism due to ill health is noticeable. Sufficient possibility for water related diecease to be the major cause.

 

 

  • Drinking Water
    • Analysis of the water revealed high percentage of Iron content & no anti bacterial treatment.
    • Absenteeism due to water borne diseases
    • Lack perennial water supply from Government water resources.


 

Project Costing

 

  • Toilet Block : $ 18,586
    • Pile foundation, Veetrified tiles, closets, PVC doors, Aluminium ventilators, exhaust fans, roofing sheets, painting, etc
    • Separate Blocks for Boys & Girls
    • Associated Plumbing & electrical fittings/connections.
  • Drinking Water Plant : $ 3,100
    • A thorough requirement study was done & the “need” was defined as 4000 litres/day of potable water. (Annex AA)
    • The Basic Total cost (w/o taxes, freight, insurance charges) is arrived at to be Rs1,08,000. (Quotation attached).
    • The other expenses not mentioned above will approximately cost another 15% of the project.
    • The scope of supply from the vendor would include Iron removal system, Sodium Hypo chloride dosing system, Feed pump for delivery requirements & other fabrication, electrical, plumbing & civil works associated with it.
    • Maintenance cost for this system would be Rs.4000 per annum
